Thanks for your comments Aaron. It's important to keep in mind that by the time HTML5 is ready for any serious production and has any type of world-wide adoption, Flash will also have advanced significantly - and at a much quicker rate since it isn't burdened by the typical squabbling of the open source world. Unless Adobe really drops the ball, there really is no way for HTML5 to ever best it in terms of creating a rich, interactive experience.

Regarding mobile, I find the "Flash lags" issue a misnomer. Most websites designed in HTML also chug severely on mobile devices and require a lot of pinch and zooming and other awkward usability. Mobile devices should always be treated separately than desktops, and experiences should be customized accordingly. Flash support on mobile devices simply means capable developers will be able to tailor a more interactive experience than they can in HTML.

I find flash requires a lot more work for SEO. HTML makes the content much more accessible, and marks up what the document means.

Flash does work on mobile, but it doesn't work well. The galaxy tablet for instance chugs along when a flash video is playing.

I agree that flash can provide a great user experience, so long as the load time is reasonable, but it wont be long before tools get developed for designers to create amazing things in HTML5.

I'm extremely impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Either way keep up the excellent quality writing, it is rare to see a great blog like this one today..

Hi Andy, thank you for your comment. I just want to correct a couple of your facts though, which should alleviate your concerns.

Flash is open-source. Yes it's primarily made by one company, however we do not develop our sites using any Adobe software, we use open source software because it's simply a type of coding language. The player runtime is also open source, and anyone is free to make their own.

Second, there is no current alternative and there is none on the horizon. Most people demand a rich, immersive experience online, and there is no other web language that can achieve that. HTML5 is at best 5 years away from broad support, and even when it is done it will a) not be capable of doing most of the things Flash can currently do, and b) will definitely not be able to do what Flash will be able to do in 5 years.

But thank you for your comments. I agree that competition is necessary, which is why I am happy to see many companies taking on Apple for their ignorant and selfish approach.
